Introducing Rehab Heroes

schenectady rehab heroes bonnie novella schenectady vacant

Who better to help those interested in rehabbing a previously vacant building than someone who has actually done it!

Introducing Breathing Lights Rehab Heroes, local individuals, nominated by Breathing Lights partners, who have successfully rehabbed a vacant or abandoned building in Albany, Schenectady or Troy and have expertise in navigating the complicated issues and tasks required to bring a previously vacant structure back to life. Rehab Heroes will serve as mentors to prospective homebuyers and rehabbers and will be special guests at upcoming Building Reclamation Clinics. We are excited to announce the first two Rehab Heroes, Bonnie Novella and Sandra Vardine, who have both recently rehabbed properties in Schenectady.

Bonnie was raised in Ballston Spa and has spent 24 years working in commercial real estate and private equity. Bonnie purchased her first vacant property in Schenectady in 2014 and rehabbed it over a 12-month period, bringing it back to “new.” Bonnie formed Mohawk Realty Partners in 2015 to rehab and stabilize distressed real estate in the Capital Region.

Sandra is an artist with a deep love and knowledge of Renaissance art and architecture. She is responsible for the restoration of three historic brownstones in Troy, the former St. Mary’s Church in Schenectady, and the former Sacred Heart Church in Cohoes. She founded House of Angels Renaissance Projects, which is dedicated to renovating and preserving historic buildings by converting them into arts spaces.
